Museum Alexander Koenig, Bonn, Germany

The IDBHP celebrations hosted by the Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig in Bonn, allowed the ASCOBANS Secretariat to exhibit life-sized inflatable whales, dolphins and porpoises from the 18th to 22nd May.  School groups and other visitors to the museum had the opportunity to experience the true size of “small” cetaceans, listen to short interactive presentations on the animals, the threats they face and how everyone can contribute to their conservation.

Particularly popular were live-stranding simulations, during which children learned how to respond if they find a dolphin or porpoise stranded on a beach. In addition, a colouring and origami area for children allowed many beautiful works of art to be prepared. Adults and children alike also had opportunity to browse banners, posters and pick up a range of information material.
